Room Acoustics

The use of room size, shape, structures, finish surfaces and furnishings to control sound reflection
characteristics of performing arts spaces, churches, meeting rooms, recording studios, etc., where listening is
important.  Room shaping and sound reflecting surface orientation for enhancement of "early-reflected" sound
and evenness of sound distribution in order to improve clarity and speech intelligibility.  For music, the creative
use of frequency-optimized, sound reflecting elements for improving "lateral" sound reflection, "early-late" sound
ratios, and acoustic "intimacy."    Variable acoustics elements.  Analysis of existing rooms using Time Delay
Spectrometry and computer modeling.

Altermatt Associates, Inc. believes in the aggressive application of acoustic concepts, developed from even the
most recent research and tempered by our own experience, in order to produce the most optimum acoustic
environment.  We believe that through knowledgeable and creative application of structural and finish materials,
significant acoustical environments can be designed, even with limited budgets.  Although the acoustics of the
finest performance halls and theaters may not be reachable at times, acoustics equal to other highly regarded
halls can be achieved, even down to the high school level.

Sound Isolation

Orientation of spaces and the use of structures and systems to achieve desirable isolation from unwanted
sound for critical quiet areas such as performing arts spaces, churches, recording studios, libraries and
museums.  Design and specification of wall and floor/ceiling structure, windows and doors, partition intersection
details and electrical/mechanical service treatments.

Electro-acoustics

Evaluation, design and specification of equipment and installation procedures for sound reinforcement systems
critically matched to room acoustics.  Computer-aided sound system design, and AutoCAD construction
documentation.  Assembly and monitoring of specialized instrumentation systems for sound and vibration
measurements.

Building Equipment Noise Control

Evaluation and design for control of noise and vibration from mechanical (especially HVAC) and electrical
equipment.  Specification of acoustical characteristics of equipment, materials and systems for sound and
vibration control.
