Staff

Russ Altermatt, P.E., Principal Engineer, originally became interested in acoustics consulting through his interest in music and audio electronics.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics (Oregon State University), and completed graduate study in Noise Control Engineering (Syracuse University).  His experience includes 5 years as Senior Consultant in Acoustics for Peter George Associates in New York Cty where he participated in the design of over 60 performing arts spaces, auditoria, and presentation rooms.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in Acoustical Engineering and in Electrical Engineering.  He is a Member of the Acoustical Society of America, the Audio Engineering Society, the Institute of Noise Control Engineers, and the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology; as well as an Allied Member of the American Institute of Architects.  He was one of 40 participants in the Concert Hall Acoustics Summer Institute sponsored by the Acoustical Society of America in 1999.

As a member of the Adjunct Faculty, Russ taught Architectural Acoustics at the Oregon School of Design.  He has served on the Noise Review Board for the City of Portland, and was part of an advisory team that established Professional Registration in the field of Acoustical Engineering in the state of Oregon.

Russ also enjoys music (audio electronics, music listening, and participation with community music groups), and family activities, especially tennis, skiing, hiking, and camping.

Todd Matthias, P.E., Senior Engineer, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington.  In following his interest in a career in acoustics, Todd then obtained a Master of Science degree in Acoustics from The Pennsylvania State University.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in Acoustical Engineering and in Mechanical Engineering.  Todd is a Member of the Acoustical Society of America, the Audio Engineering Society, the Institute of Noise Control Engineers, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Todd's personal interests include music (guitar training and performance, and music listening), snow skiing and bicycling.

Jake Ross, Engineer, received Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics, and in Music Education from Oregon State University.  His original interest in architectural acoustics was a natural outgrowth of his background in physics and music.  He is a Member of the Acoustical Society of America, and the American Physical Society.

Jake continues his long interest in music performance through participation in community orchestras and bands (trombone and tuba).  He also participates in motorcycle ridership and safety training through Team Oregon.
